Quoting from – Sport Psychology at Leipzig University

Our master’s student, Julius Hannig, spent his semester abroad in Japan. He has summarised his experiences and impressions in a report for us “Unusual semester abroad”.

“About 45 minutes away from the buzzing megalopolis of Tokyo, I had the chance to engulf myself in the life of a student at Tsukuba University. Although organizing the exchange beforehand and at Tsukuba had a few difficulties, because I was the first student from Leipzig for the exchange, I found help and support whenever I needed it. Getting accustomed to living in Tsukuba was really easy as I was integrated into the new batch of students starting their master’s degree programme in Sport and Olympic studies. My batchmates took me in easily and made me feel welcome in their group from day one. Academically, some modules connected really well with the SEP curriculum. These courses gave a different perspective to an existing foundation of knowledge. While the group of students was international as well, the flavour of the discussions was different from the SEP classes. Highlights of the semester were chances to interact with former Olympians and coaches as well as joining the Asia-Oceania Anti-Doping Conference. Apart from the academic encounters, I was able to join the practices of the Judo club and participate in different events to engage with local citizens of any age through sport.

A special thank you from me to Rakwal Randeep sensei, Saori Nakayama sensei, Hiroaki Hiraoka sensei, Yasuo Sengoku sensei, Satoru Tanigawa sensei, Hirotaka Okada sensei, and everybody at GSI Building.”
