GSI-TAIIKU:: INSPIRING COMMUNICATIONS 59::: To another great TIAS ALUMNI (GUATEMALA) – CONGRATULATIONS on the NEW POSITION, the (SFT) LEGACY CONTINUES

– Dr Pedro Danilo Ponciano Núñez earned his Master’s in Olympic Studies from the University of Tsukuba in 2019 through the Tsukuba International Academy for Sport Studies (TIAS) (Research Advisor, Sensei – Dr. Alexis Lyras), and completed his PhD in Education, Sport and Health at the University of Vigo with Cum Laude distinction and the Extraordinary Doctoral Award.

In 2025, he was nationally elected as Secretary of the Ethics Committee of the College of Psychologists of Guatemala, alongside another professional from the field of sport and physical education, reflecting growing recognition of interdisciplinary leadership in the promotion of ethical standards.
He is the founder and current president of the Pierre de Coubertin Committee of Guatemala, an organization officially recognized by the International Pierre de Coubertin Committee. In this role, he promotes Olympic education and Coubertinian values in community-based and multicultural settings. Dr Ponciano Núñez has published over twenty peer-reviewed articles in journals such as Sport, Education and Society, Sport in Society, and Frontiers in Sports and Active Living.

His research explores Sport for Development, Olympic education, and the impact of sport in vulnerable youth contexts across Latin America.
