Ecuadorian Ambassador Visits Institute of Health and Sport Sciences

On June 21,2023, Mr. César Montaño, Ambassador of Ecuador to Japan, Ms. Ñusta Maldonado, First Secretary, and Mr. Alex Monge, Attaché, visited Institute of Health and Sport Sciences. Their visit began at University headquarters, where they held talks with Vice President Jun Ikeda (Global Affairs) and Executive Officer Osamu Ohneda (Director-General, Bureau of Global Initiatives).

Then, Ecuador Ambassador’s delegation moved to GSI (Global Sport Innovation building) to discuss with Prof. Satoshi Shimizu (Special Advisor to the President), Prof. Koyo Fukasawa (Chair, Master’s Program in Sport and Olympic Studies) and Prof. Randeep Rakwal. Prof Shimizu introduced the Physical Education Department and Prof Fukasawa gave an overview of Master’s Program in Sport and Olympic Studies (TIAS 2.0). During the meeting, they tried to seek various ideas for potential student and research exchanges, such as scholarship possibilities, joint seminars and forums.

Three Ecuadorian students were also present. They explained their study, research and experience at the University of Tsukuba. Two are currently enrolled in TIAS 2.0 whereas one is a graduate of the Joint Master’s Program in International Development and Peace through Sport (IDS).

Afterwards, the delegation toured the Sport Sciences Area including Olympic-related exhibits.

Further academic and student exchange with Ecuador is expected in the future.
