TIAS ALUMNI NETWORK June 2026

Dr. Pedro Danilo Ponciano Núñez, a graduate of the University of Tsukuba (TIAS program) and faculty member at Universidad del Valle de Guatemala, recently participated in the 2026 AIESEP International Conference in Taipei, Taiwan.
During the conference, he presented his work entitled “Sport Consciousness and Community Pedagogies: Epistemic Justice from Latin America,” highlighting the development and application of the Sport Consciousness Model (SCM).
The presentation drew on experiences from Guatemala and research conducted in Colombia, emphasizing community-based pedagogies, social transformation, and epistemic justice through sport.
In addition, Dr. Ponciano was recognized as a Developing Country Scholar, an award that supports scholars from developing nations and promotes greater diversity within international academic dialogue.
His participation reflects the growing contribution of Latin American scholarship to global discussions in physical education, sport pedagogy, and sport for social change, while continuing the international academic connections fostered through the University of Tsukuba.
